Why do laws prevent the pleasures of life?

Yesterday I posed a question to my network of people on Twitter and Facebook.

Here are all the answers:

From Twitter:

@gcrush said "the "institution" doesn't prevent people from doing things they enjoy, the people themselves that don't allow"

@AndreaSchoening said "they want you to feel miserable to support their story they have about life"

@JulieRasmussen said "i dont think they impact my fun... i've found ways around them (after hours clubs, etc)"

@anotorias said "because all laws and regulations are intrinsically against hedonism. :)"

@rydka said "control = money"

@SFBobzilla said "Complex question, IMO not really answerable in 140 characters. It all depends on what you"

@hexodus said "each case would have to be evaluatd separately. don't believe that there is a simple explanation that"

@tamaraleach said "ppl seem 2 4get that it's ppl makin these laws not some evil alien force. A lota boring shit is regulatd"

@Monalisa7872 said "to keep us in control- mental & physcal slavery. Spritual slavery doesn't exist IMO - thats your choice"

@jayehesohin said "Mass thought control under the guise of protecting us from ourselves"

@brattynat said "Fun must be regulated! If it can't be regulated, it must be made illegal!"

@tamaraleach said "...a helluva lot weird shit got bundled n there with tryn 2keep us from killn each other"

@blazingshark said "the government keeps us from doing things we enjoy because some things are just more fun when illegal"

@nixrue said "Control= maintaining the hegemonic status quo of mostly-rich, straight white male supremacy"

@NoPantsDance (cont) "...some create the darkness and some are made out of fear.. of losing control, & because.. "

@NoPantsDance said "it depends on the law you're referencing. some laws protect us from the darkness in the world"

@amoration said "some institutions make decisions to protect their people and extend those considerations to all...

@vlectronica said "fear. idk what else could possibly explain it..."

@sugarpowpow said "Fear"

@racheljean said "Cause some people enjoy doing thngs that r harmful to themselves / others. Not everythng but some thngs"

@1indienation said "control"

@18percentgrey said "mostly control. a controlled populace is a productive one, so the antiquated thought train says..."

@eshone said "to instill the feeling of guilt and conscience :)"

@GENeralization said "It could be viewed 2 ways a spirtual person might tell you becasue of transgressions basicly says everyone should submit himself to governing authourities that been establishe by god So anyone who loves god and respects them self enjoyable knows it all goes hand in had for right us Now on the other hand someone not bleiving in god you have to think about the most commenly enjoyable broken laws I think I belive that would be the law of oral sex like in Georgia it is a felony punishable by 20 years I know it feels good but the reason why its is prohibited is sodomy law because asexual reproduction it can get into Bactria and viruses that take control. Look at all the STD passed around today So that sexual act in turn can be bad for us all. Stick your hand in fire and you might get burned... THE END LOL

And from Facebook:

Flavor Wizards said "we want your soul"

E. Fujiwara said "keeps the blood calm allowing for docile behavior...otherwise people would be sex drugs and rock n roll all the time..."

S. Nikelle said "Because 'The Man' thinks if we were allowed to do what we want (have fun and party) then all of society would collapse. And I think people who subscribe to religions agree.I am an atheist, or rather a humanist, and strive to be the very best person I can be without the threat of eternal damnation or the promise of the pearly gates. Many people truly believe there is no morality without religion, probably the same people who don't read books. My 2 cents!"

X. Zelaya said "Many people truly believe there is no morality without religion, probably the same people who don't read books." Heheh well put. Maybe it's just that they only read ONE book over and over and don't give anything else a chance from fear of losing their religion"

V. Uhl said "don't get me started, jordan... lol. we'll have to go to coffee sometime to go over this one..."

K. So said "I would say the prime reason, along with control, in my humble O...... is over-adherence to outdated puritanical values.... and then there's the fear-mongering, which justifies a perceived 'umbrella' protection from a higher authority."

F. DiPietro said "I bet some of those people enjoy making those kind laws. We can only pity them really."

A. Schoening said "I don't know...what do you think?"

K. Spear said "because the man wants to bring y'all down! live in the forest and run naked!! wooooooo"

M. Hirsch said "1. BECAUSE THE FED'S AND THE CHURCH DOSE NOT WANT ANYONE TO ENJOY LIFE. 2. THEY ARE CONTROL FREAKS. 3. IF THE PEOPLE REALIZE LIFE IS GOOD WITHOUT THE FED’S AND THE CHURCH, THE PEOPLE WILL RISE UP AND OVER THROW.
DON’T GET ME STARTED."

SO WOW!

Those were all the answer's I got on this question of the day experiment.

As for my answer, I agree with a lot of your answers as to why these laws are in place. And I try instead to live by the laws that I find most true. For me, I don't want to do anything to cause harm to anyone, or to prevent anyone else from doing something they enjoy, that also does not cause harm to someone else. Outside of that, live life like you want. It is YOURS!

Much love to everyone for participating.
