Afro Funke' time - 2/05

TONIGHT!

Once again our friend, DJ Tom Thump, swooped in from the Bay to hit it hard at Afro Funke’ last Thursday. His “Kinkysweet” sets are not to be missed! Much love to the folks who came through early for the Alice Russell listening party from 9 to 10pm who got to grab copies of the full length from this new UK soul talent. The spot was in high spirits!!
This week we welcome a true LA deejay legend plus a veteran label owner / DJ and a listening party for the queen of soul folk. Don't forget to step out early for drink specials and giveaways!

guest deejay:
AJ JACKSON
(The Soul Children / JuJu)
This son of a jazz musician is dedicated to bridge the gap between hip hop and jazz. His musical influences range from Allen Jackson (dad) and John Coltrane to Pete Rock.
Al's DJ career was launched in 1989 fueled by his passion for collecting records and the desire to start an underground dance club. Simply stated, he began deejaying because he got tired of waiting in long lines and spending lots of money for clubs that were not worth the price of admission. You might know him from his appearances at the clubs Juju, Wax On or Intimate Connection. If there is anything that you need to know musically about Al Jackson, know that your ears won't be disappointed.

guest deejay:
TIM “LOVE” LEE
Tim Lee was born in January 1970 and, as far as his taste in erotica and facial hair is concerned, has not progressed much further. After gaining a degree in music from Nottingham University, Lee set up his own record label, primarily as a means of releasing his band’s music and his own home recorded experiments. The label, Peace Feast, was a success and led to many DJ gigs around the world.
Since then Tim has played for appreciative crowds all around the world. From Helsinki to Sydney, San Francisco to Moscow, Hong Kong to Paris with further tours planned for the USA, South America, Australia and Europe. From huge festivals (like Benicassim in Spain) to world famous discos (Ministry Of Sound, London) to infamous dive bars (The Viper Rooms, Hollywood) Tim’s sets always produce a great reaction. Tim has recorded four full-length albums of original material for Tummy Touch Records and three DJ Mix CDs for other labels including “The Trip” for Universal Records – the largest music company in the world. His remixing credits include huge international acts like Soulwax, Groove Armada, Tom Vek and Shed 7 plus many up and coming bands from the USA & the UK.
